TROVET - A RELIABLE REPUTATION

Since 1987, TROVET is a well established brand of dietary pet food in many European countries.

The basis for the TROVET product range was set in the beginning of the 1970’s by the company called Trouw. From origin, Trouw is a Dutch company founded in the 1930’s, that started selling special vitamin and mineral mixes, so-called premixes, to the compound industry. These premixes were used to be added to the bulk ingredients for the production of concentrates for, at those days, mainly large animals (poultry, cattle and pigs). In the following decades Trouw developed into a worldwide operating company. The activities include premix- and concentrate production, meat production and -processing and fish food and fish production.

In the 1960’s Trouw was acquitted by British Petroleum (BP) and became known as BP Nutrition. In this period they started to develop more consumer orientated products such as sausages and pet food. The collected knowledge became very useful to develop well balanced pet food formulas. Famous brand names such as Doko, Dokat and Noblesse were established which held top 5 ranking in many leading European countries such as England, France and Germany.

In the beginning of the 1980’s a new trend came from America to Europe: dietary pet food for dogs and cats. To meet the growing market demand for these type of products Trouw developed, as the first European company, an own line under the brand name TROVET. The abbreviation TROVET comes from the letters TROuw and VETerinary diets and means in the Greek language "for vets"”.

In 1994 BP Nutrition was sold of by BP through a management buy out. During this process the normal pet food was sold of separate to Dalgety. After further mergers the brand names were acquired by Nestle where they are today. The name for the new founded company, accounting for over 4,000 employees and a turnover of 2.5 billion euros, was Nutreco. After 1994, TROVET remained a part of the multinational Nutreco, that remained a strong global player in the processing and production of feed (premix, concentrate, specialties) for animals in agri- and aqua culture. As a result of more focus by Nutreco on their core business, it was decided that the TROVET dietary pet food activity was better of outside Nutreco.

In November 1997, the TROVET brand was sold of and acquired through a management-buy-out by Netlaa bv. Within this company TROVET got again full attention and a new impulse for product and market development. 

Netlaa bv is a flexible and market orientated Dutch company, that is mainly active in the production and marketing of dietary pet food under the brand name TROVET. The TROVET diets are mainly sold through veterinarians and are marketed (2007) in the following countries:

“ To offer veterinary diets which are very well accepted by the dog/cat and have proven to be effective under market conditions. The pricing of these products should be at an interesting level for the end user to get customer compliance. Thus resulting in good brand loyalty which is in favour for both the animal and all other parties involved.”
